We had a GREAT weekend in Myrtle Beach! Aside from building sandcastles, hunting for shells, and playing on the beach. We also went to the board walk at night and watched the speed boats, built a race car, went to Magic Quest for a neat scavenger hunt, and road the giant Skywheel (ferris wheel).

Hayden's Birthday Surprise... trip to the Ocean
Since we weren't in Illinois having a birthday party with Hayden's cousins, we decided to surprise him with a weekend trip to Myrtle Beach to see the ocean for his first time! I am so glad we went too, because I haven't seen him that genuinely excited before!

Happy 5th Birthday, Hayden!!
Today, we had a wonderful time celebrating Hayden's 5th birthday!! We started the day with a few surprises! Since Hayden first moved to his big boy bed, he has been asking if could have breakfast in bed, so what better day to let him than his birthday, so we woke him up with a donut/candle... he was so happy! :) We also had a few more surprises that included birthday wishes written on his bathroom mirror, a present full of balloons, and a decorated door that he had to break-through.
Another surprise on his birthday, was Jake and I going to his preschool to eat lunch with him and bring Rice Krispie treats for his class! So thankful his teacher has a neat tradition!! :)
After preschool, we decided to take Hayden to the Nascar Speedpark for some Birthday fun. Aside from a mini-train ride and arcades. Hayden was also able to drive his first go-kart all by himself! Couldn't think of a better present for him... he was so proud of himself!
To wrap-up Hayden's 5th birthday celebration, we headed home for presents, cake, and a few
Outer Space activities!

Hayden's Birthday Cake
One of my FAVORITE birthday traditions, is the night before Hayden's b-day when Jake and I stay up (way too late) creating Hayden's birthday cake! This year, it was by far the easiest cake out of the 5 we have made. Hayden requested a Rocket Ship with yellow, orange and blue colors... and we were asked to not forget some M&M's. :)
Happy First Day of Spring!
The past week, has felt more like summer, so it feels a little odd to be celebrating the first day of Spring, but what better way to celebrate our first meal in the dining room! :)

Early Birthday Present... Pet Frogs
Hayden received an early present in the mail from Aunt Nikki and Uncle Corey today. It was very interesting to find the box with so many stickers on the front porch... thankful Nikki gave me a head's up. :) Hayden was surprised and very excited for his new "friends". He named them Leapster and Jumper. Thankfully Jake is fine taking care of them, because I find them kind of gross!

Happy St. Patrick's Day
We started the day off with a yummy green breakfast... compliments of Jake. He made green pancakes, green scrambled eggs, and kiwi. :). Before we headed out for the day, Hayden left some skittles in his leprechaun trap, in hopes of one last chance to catch him! Then we headed to an awesome place in Charlotte called White Water Center. They have hiking trails, rock walls, ziplines, ropes courses and rapids! They had a fun celebration that included Irish Music, a leprechaun, and a 'turning the rapids green' ceremony.
After spending some time watching everyone brave the green rapids, Hayden and Jake tried their hand at Rock Climbing. I was so proud of Hayden for giving it a good try. I felt bad, because he was so hard on himself for not getting to the top of the wall like Jake did, but he can try again next year! :)

After a fun day at the rapids, we enjoyed a yummy Irish dinner out, and headed home. To Hayden's surprise, his skittles in the trap helped... although he didn't catch anything, he did find a trail of gold that lead to a bag of goodies from the leprechaun. :)

Crossing the Border
(He is very serious these days about making wishes, as you can see.)
Since Hayden doesn't have preschool on Fridays, we are starting a new tradition of exploring on these days. We crossed the border and decided to find our way around South Carolina. We found a Hobby Lobby/Dollar Tree, so of course we had to stop there ;). Then we ate lunch by the Catawaba River and watched some excavators dig. After that we went to Lake Wylie to throw rocks and watch some fisherman and jet skiers... Hayden wants to know when he will be old enough to ride one! Eek! Then we finished our afternoon of exploring in Baxter Village enjoying some ice cream, a caboose, and making a wish at the fountain.
