Construction Truck kind of a day

Hayden took a Construction Zone class at the Park District, so of course when he came home he wanted to have a Construction Zone lunch. :)  After naptime, aside from playing with his umpteen trucks, he also practiced his Construction lacing cards.  Although I think his favorite part of the day was when he I gave him a pair of construction truck socks I found at Target's Dollar Section! :)
Muffin Tin Lunch:  Dumptruck pb&J sandwich, gravel(trailmix), safety cones(carrots), dirt(pudding), Tonka Trucks cheez-its, and boulders (bananas)

Happy Valentine's Day!!

We had such a FUN day today!  We started the morning with a yummy Valentine's breakfast & made holiday cards.  We then did some fun V-day heart activities!  After our Muffin Tin lunch, we surprised Hayden with a trip to the movie theater to see Gnomeo & Juliet, which was a cute movie!  (Thank you again, Daddy for taking the day off of work to celebrate Valentine's day)  After Hayden's nap, we had our traditional Valentine Scavenger Hunt!  I love this part, because Hayden gets SO excited to find all the clues to his V-day goodies!  We ended the night with a tasty dinner... Pretzels & Cheese, then yummy Cupcake Fondue!  Couldn't have asked for a better day!!

Muffin Tin Monday- Snow

There isn't a theme for Muffin Tin Monday today.  Although I am SICK of snow, Hayden doesn't appear to be.  He requested a snowplow to go along with the one he saw this morning, as well as the Snow Mighty Machines DVD we rented this weekend from Redbox. :)
Salami Sandwich Snow plow,  Banana Snowmen, String Cheese Igloo, Marshmallow & Yogurt Raisin Snowballs, Popcorn Snowflakes, and a homemade Snow Slushie

Advent Calendar Day 1- Christmas Tree

Today was the first day of December, and we started our advent calendar!!  I have different crafts, theme days, and activities planned to help us countdown to Christmas!  Dec. 1st was focused on Christmas trees.  We decorated a gingerbread Christmas tree, played a few x-mas tree games, and received a tree hat prop for our prop box! :)  Hayden also discovered packing bubbles which was one of his favorite parts... go figure :)

Happy Johnny Appleseed Day!

"Hayden Appleseed"

In honor of Johnny Appleseed Day we had a yummy apple themed lunch and read about all the apple trees Johnny planted!  We also made our own apple tree and some delicious home made applesauce!!  Hayden was a little confused as to why Mr. Appleseed wore a pot on his head as a hat, but that didn't stop him from trying it himself! :)

Lunch: Apple Cider, Apple Slices, Apple Shaped Corn Dog Muffins, Yogurt w/Tootsie Roll stem, Apple Seeds(raisins), Apple Stems(pretzel sticks)

Chopsticks and Shrinky Dinks

(Shells Mac/Cheese with Duckweed :), Hot Dog Octopus, Oyster Cookies,
Seaweed Pickles, Ocean yogurt/blueberries, gold fish crackers)

Yesterday, on our train excursion to Downers Grove, we stopped into a really cute toy store.  I was excited to find kiddie chopsticks... I have been on the search for these to help Hayden practice his fine motor skills!!  Added bonus... only $1.99, so I bought a few pairs for him.  Today, he wanted to try his Shark Chopsticks, so we had an Ocean Themed Muffin Tin lunch.

He started to get the hang of them by the end of lunch!

I was also excited to find Shrinky Dinks!!  I have seen these at Michael's, but they only had princess or robot themes, so I was very happy to find cars there!!  As you can imagine, so was Hayden!!

Time to Bake them!
Watching them Shrink
He couldn't believe how small they shrank! LOL!

Muffin Tin Meals

Since I am LUCKY enough to stay home with Hayden the next year, one of my goals is to make sure that he starts "learning" good eating habits.  One way that I have been reading about, is to use muffin tins to not just help with portion control, but to also make it fun!  I have been trying to use these once a week and use a creative theme!  It seems to be working, he will eat every last crumb in the tins!  (Knock on wood).
Breakfast Dippers- French Toast/Syrup & Fruit/Yogurt

The theme this week that I used was "Dippers" everything had to be dipped!  Hayden loved it!

Lunch Dippers- Carrots/Ranch, Salami/Cream Cheese, Apples/Peanut butter

Happy Flag Day!

n

Today, Hayden and I celebrated Flag Day, by creating a few home made flags, Flag Cookies, and a Yummy Flag lunch! My favorite part was singing Flag Songs and having him repeat the Pledge of Allegiance after me... it was tooooo cute the way he pronounced words! :)
