Today Hayden and I visited a super cute southern plantation store to pick up a few goodies for our first out of town visitor. My Illinois neighbor, Angie will be staying with us for a few days, so I wanted to give her a Southern Experience. Hayden loved choosing the peaches... of course he picked all the ones with leaves. :)

Such a Character!
Hayden cracks me up sometimes! One of the restaurants that we frequent occasionally is Salsarita's... similar to Chipotle. Hayden really likes their quesadillas, but his favorite thing is their dancing mascot. It is a lime that dances with a sombrero and maracas. Hayden loves watching it, and now will copy the dance... even at home! The look on his face with his mouth open makes me laugh every time! :)

Family Time
Today, we had a really nice family day spent swimming at the pool during the afternoon, then went out for dinner and to see the new movie, Brave. Although, Hayden was scared at some parts,

Happy First Day of Summer
Today we celebrated the first day of summer! We started with a yummy banana split for breakfast! Well, not really... actually tasted better than a "typical" one. We created it using bananas, yogurt, fruit toppings, nutella, and a little bit of granola! Very tasty!! :) We also made peach popsicles, snacked on yummy watermelon, and spent the afternoon at the pool! Very excited for more summer days like today! :)

Happy Father's Day!
Hayden and I were both very excited to celebrate Father's Day with Jake! After waking Jake up with breakfast in bed; coconut french toast, Hayden gave him a few gifts he made during preschool. Afterwards, we took him fishing at a park called Copperhead Island... thankfully it didn't live up to it's name! :)

Car Show and Butterflies
In the morning, Jake and Hayden set off to a car show. It is always so cute to hear their stories and see pictures after they go to one of these! :)
Then later that night, it was time to set the butterflies free! It was really neat to spend the Spring watching them go from tiny caterpillars, to living in their chrysalises, and then emerge as butterflies!

Afternoon at Squirrel Park
Today we checked out a new park, that is so nice! It has a cute playground, sandbox, fishing pier, and a walkway. After enjoying the playground, Hayden and I decided to go on the walkway to hunt for turtles & frogs that a few people said they saw... to Hayden's delight, we found more than that... we found a snake!!! EEEK! To freak me out even more, we found out it was a Copperhead Snake, which is poisonous. Needless to say, that ended our afternoon in nature! :)

Bye-Bye Training Wheels... Part 1
This morning, we said good-bye to training wheels, and hello to two wheels! :) Hayden was soooo excited to try out this bike without them. Considering it was his first day, he did really well. Thank goodness Jake likes to run, because he had to do a lot of it, while giving Hayden tips about balancing. Now we need to work on his focus. :) Every time he sees a squirrel or car drive by, he looks at that and starts to tilt. :) Looking forward to the next few weeks of more practicing!

Hayden and Mommy Date Night
Jake had to work late, so Hayden and I had a mini-date night. :) We made mini-pizzas and played Monopoly Jr. I even treated him to his first cone from the Ice Cream truck.

Our Butterflies came out of their Chrysalises!!! It was very exciting to see the butterflies emerge!! We learned that it takes them about an hour to finally fly; their wings need to dry and fill up with blood. We also learned that the red liquid that we thought was blood is actually called Meconium... which is the left over dye from their wings. It has been really neat to watch them eat from the flowers and oranges we give. In about a week though, we will be releasing them outside.

Lazy 5 Ranch
Today, we traveled up North to Mooresville, NC to a place called Lazy 5 Ranch. It was actually really neat. You drive your car through large wooded areas/fields and encounter TONS of animals. You can buy buckets of feed for the animals, and they will walk right up to your car... and at times stick their heads into your car to get the food. My favorite were the zebras, the Llamas seemed to favor Jake, and Hayden really enjoyed feeding the Giraffes. All of us definitely disliked the Emus... aside from their "freakish" looks they were very selfish and tried to eat all of the food.
Definitely a fun time!
One of my favorite pictures... one of the llamas staring Jake down. :)
Our car was a disaster afterwards.
